This past Tuesday, Steve from the Summit City Fencing Club visited the Pontiac branch and demonstrated some fencing moves and gear. He also brought enough gear for our young folks to try their hand at fencing. Currently, the Summit City Fencing Club is holding classes and practices across the street at Zion Lutheran Academy (2313 Hanna St.) on Mon, Tues, Wed evenings from 7-9 p.m You’ll find them in the upstairs gym where they have plenty of room for plenty of fencing!

Teens: Don’t miss our Artist Trading Card program!

atc-010.jpg atc-011.jpg atc-012.jpg atc-013.jpg

Each Tuesday at 4 pm we have Teen Café, a program for our teens to do different things. This week we will be making Artist Trading Cards (or ATCs). ATCs are miniature pieces of art that can be traded and collected if the artist so desires. They are usually made on card stock, and the art can be done in any media (digital art, watercolor, pencil, etc.). The only requirement is that they be 2.5 X 3.5 inches in size – the exact size of a baseball card. I’ve been making ATCs for a month or so now, and I am going to try to make one based upon each book I read. Above are a few that I have made so far. Don’t miss this exciting program! We’ll provide all the materials you need!

Writing workshops

scott1.jpg

Above is a photo from last Tuesday’s writing workshop with local poet, Scott Smiley. Scott did a great job talking about and answering questions about the writing process and publication. Our participants were eager to both share their own work and benefit from Mr. Smiley’s personal knowledge about being a writer. Our next writing workshop with Mr. Smiley will be on Tuesday, April 22 from 4 – 5:30 pm. All ages are welcome.
