A very special visit from Caroline Brewer

Last week we had a very special visit from author Caroline Brewer. A native of Fort Wayne, Ms. Brewer now lives in the DC area and has written several children’s books. While she was here, she talked with several children at the branch and donated a signed copy of her book, The Jelani Tree, to the library. Later that day, some of the kids read another of her books, Kara Finds Sunshine on a Rainy Day, to Piper (our favorite dog). We all very much enjoyed her visit and hope she will stop by the next time she is in town!

Sharon Flake & Angela Johnson

Lisa and Benita, Pontiac branch librarians, attended a conference in Kalamazoo last Friday where they got to meet prominent authors Sharon Flake and Angela Johnson. These authors write very popular books for teens and have won several prestigious awards. We have numerous copies of their books on our shelves. Just ask at the desk, and we can help you find them! Below are a few photos from the conference. Click on the photos for a larger view.

African American Read-in Photos

Visit our Flickr page to see all of our photos from last night’s African American Read-in. We had a fantastic turnout for the 4th Annual African American Read-in, and we would like to thank everyone for their support. We estimate that we had just over 90 people participate, with readers including authors Charles Cush and Deborah Godwin-Starks as well as Wayne Township Trustee Richard Stevenson. We would especially like to thank Condra Ridley for her outstanding promotion of this event and her invaluable help last night. We are truly in her debt for making this a very special event!
