Harambee Festival

Join us and others in the community to celebrate the 15th annual Harambee Festival on Saturday at Weisser Park (3000 S. Hanna). This all day event will feature family entertainment, a basketball tournament, children’s storytelling, and a stage filled with events from music to poetry and dramatic skits. The theme this year is “Music: A way of life.”

Library staff will be at the festival from 3-5 pm with a craft (Fon Story Pictures, inspired by the Story Pictures of Benin) and to register folks for library cards. Be sure to bring your ID if you would like to register for a card.

A very special visit from Caroline Brewer

Last week we had a very special visit from author Caroline Brewer. A native of Fort Wayne, Ms. Brewer now lives in the DC area and has written several children’s books. While she was here, she talked with several children at the branch and donated a signed copy of her book, The Jelani Tree, to the library. Later that day, some of the kids read another of her books, Kara Finds Sunshine on a Rainy Day, to Piper (our favorite dog). We all very much enjoyed her visit and hope she will stop by the next time she is in town!
